Shipping Info
Please do not ship anything to our studio address! We have a secure PO box where all packages are held until we are able to bring them back to our studio.
Our shipping address is:
3231 South Halsted St, #333
Attn: Tom Tomc Restoration
Chicago IL, 60608
Please submit a form first and wait for approval before sending anything to us! When approved, you will receive the same shipping instructions in an email, as well as a form to provide the tracking number.
Shipping: When you create a label, please complete the follow up form that was sent to you to provide the tracking number.
Note: A direct signature is required when we send pieces back to ensure a safe delivery, and we recommend you do the same when you ship it to us. If your items are lost or damaged during transit, not having a required signature removes your right to claim the amount declared or the insured value you requested, if any. We are not liable for any damage or loss caused from shipping to or from our studio. In the event that a package goes missing en route to our PO box, or in the hands of the preferred carrier you choose during return transit, any and all damages or insurance claims must be formally submitted through the proper channels. (UPS Claims Department, FedEx Claims Department, or the US Postal Inspection Service) In the event of a loss, we will do everything we can to assist you in locating the package or escalating a claim if it’s on our end, but we will not be held responsible for replacing said items or refunding the value.
All incoming packages are held at our secure P.O. box, which we visit a few times each week. Providing us with your tracking information allows us to plan pickups, and we will send you an email once we have it in our studio.
We understand that not everyone is used to shipping. We will provide a safe and well-packed tube when the work is sent back. We try to return pieces in the same packaging we received them in, but if we must utilize new materials, we will add a charge to the final invoice at our discretion. For instance, if a poster is sent in a small tube, then linen backed, we would need to use a larger tube to account for the increased diameter when rolled.
Please ensure your piece is packed well! We recommend using multiple tubes, or thick layers of cardboard. Taking the time to “bomb proof” your package with additional tape, bubble wrap, stapled end caps, or doing a simple crunch test to the quality of the tube before you send, can save you from a headache and added costs if it arrives to us damaged.
We do not cover the cost of shipping to or from our studio. When returning, we are happy to print a label you provide, or create one ourselves with your preferences, which will be charged on the final invoice.
Best Shipping Practices
While our business thrives on fixing and preserving your art, we don’t want any unnecessary damage to happen in transit!
Please take the time to protect your pieces accordingly. If sending posters, please send a tube that is well reinforced. Thin tubes in triangle boxes are not enough to save your poster from crunches. Ideally, we ask that you use a double or triple walled kraft tube, plus additional packing materials like bubble wrap or threaded tape. We would also recommend either taping the end caps especially well, or stapling them so there’s no chance of them popping off in transit. Some customers use a smaller tube or PVC pipe within a larger reinforced tube, and that seems to be the safest option we’ve seen!
As a rule of thumb, we test our tubes by either stepping on them or squeezing them before packing to make sure they’re sturdy. Tubes and packages are often handled roughly, and can be pinched and dented easily. While it may be more time and expense up front for the materials, it is well worth it to guarantee the safety of your item!
Similarly, if you plan on sending a piece that’s flat, please take the time to reinforce the package with a strong material like Masonite or multiple layers of thick cardboard to ensure nothing bends. Rather than taking the chance of having to repair it more, take the time to really reinforce and protect it first!
Some customers have sent us air tags or similar tracking devices within their package, in case it goes missing in transit. While this isn’t a common practice, if you choose to do so, please let us know and we’ll be sure to keep it safe and return it with the finished project.
